12 of 12 May 2010 …

Another month down and time for another 12 of 12.

Today was nothing exciting but there were a few things that were out of the normal.

The day started as normal dropping the kids at school which allowed some cache maintenance at my Eden Hills CFS cache (spoiler photo). A stop at the Post Office but the postbox was bare today. The usual drive down to Adelaide and grabbed a photo of the city near Scotch College and apart from the traffic at the roundabout there,  it was a good drive in.

A couple of photos of the SA Police HQ going up at the back of the Fire Station and the car park going up in the front.

A visit from Ivar with the proof print for the Competitors Map for this years Scouts Rally SA – good to go. 🙂

Today was the start of the second round of Lung Function Testing for our firefighters. The University of Adelaide researchers brought in their equipment today and we set it up ready for the 6 month study as a follow on study from 2 years ago.

There a few photos of work life with the line up of “fire cars”, coffee time and some reading material.

This afternoon, I caught up with Flipper & Co to give some Travel Bugs which they are going to take to Melbourne on the weekend.

Through the carwash on the way back to the Fire Station and then final photo is “Time to Go Home” as the sun sets with the night shift crews about to begin for the night ………

April 12 of 12 ….

What to do for this months 12 of 12. A work day and not one that was to be all that exciting – spending the day in Court as an assessor on an Appeals Tribunal. Taking a leaf out of DarrylW4’s book, I decided that I would take photos of anything that happened on my iPhone.

The 12 photos I grabbed for the day are:

Ended up not being too bad of a 12 of 12. See what next month brings. 🙂

March 12 of 12 – Clipsal 500 V8 Supercars

March is known in Adelaide and South Australia as “Mad March”, because of all the events that are held during the month such as the Adelaide Festival of Arts, The Fringe, Womadelaide and the biggest event of the all the Clipsal 500 V8 Supercar Race.

My involvement in all these events is the position of “Emergency Coordinator” at the Clipsal 500. This involves the coordination of all the fire trucks, tow trucks, recovery vehicles and equipment vehicles on track.

The day started at 6:00 am with sign-on at the “Turn 3 Marquee” where all of the 800 volunteer Officials meet in the morning to collect lunches, drinking water and hold briefings on the days proceedings.

From here the Officials, disperse to around 50 points around the street circuit, in various roles such as fire, flags, track and spectator.

My home for the day is in Race Control which sits on the top floor of the new $20 million Pit Building overlooking the start line. It must be the best seat in the place and has air-conditioning as well.

The morning started with Radio Checks and then various practice, qualifying and race sessions.

The day got off to a bang with a rollover in the Mini Challenge, 3 crashes in the GT Championship and this was all before 9:00 am.

It got quieter through the day with an impressive crash in the Aussie Racing Cars but when the Touring Car Masters and V8 Utes came out in the afternoon, the manure hit the fan.

The Touring Car Masters were mainly breakdowns – after all the cars are getting old. But the V8 Utes had fires and crashes to keep the crowd and our firies and towies, not to mention my team in Race Control on our toes.

I have included some photos up to the Fujitsu V8 race – not sure what is going to happen in that – hopefully a little quieter.

Enjoy.

February 12 of 12 – Everywhere a Sign …

I almost forgot about todays 12 of 12 but as I was heading down Anzac Highway for some shopping for work, todays date popped up in my mind and I was already half way through the day. What was I going today. It hit me when I got to my first location – Sign Sign everywhere a sign, blocking out the scenery breaking my mind, Do this, don’t do that, can’t you read the sign …..

So I decided that the theme for this months 12 of 12 would be signs.

First stop was Officeworks which didn’t have what I needed, so off to Ikea and more signs only bigger. They had what I needed.

It was now lunch time and the GPS was telling me there were 3 caches nearby – a sign.

First Stop was GC233JB – Prince of Thieves which was near a tennis club with signs on the fence. Next stop was GC1VMB8 – The Hex Hill Cache where there were signs on every bin telling you what to do. Third cache was GC1TX84 – Magnetcacheon where the cache itself had a little sign on it.

Enough of caching, it was time to get a feed on the way back to work – C Coffee for a Cappuccino followed by a pastie from Cafe De Villi’s.

Back at work and there was plenty of signs to keep those not wanted out. From my Office window there is signs of change with the car park across the road rising from what used to be a petrol station in a former life.

The end of the day and the end of another week, and with half the family off to a chick concert and the son having already made himself some pasta for tea, I decided to head up to Blackwood for some take away but which one did I choose?

It was then time to drop the son at Venturers for a DVC. Since I was up at Belair I put the car through the car wash so it would look its best for the Seaford Fire Station opening tomorrow. In order to dry the car off, I headed down the hill to grab a cache in Brownhill Creek – GC1XCD2 – Mitcham Quarries #1 Brownhill Creek.

For a 12 of 12 that I nearly forgot, it turned out not too bad, and remember:

Sign Sign everywhere a sign
Blocking out the scenery breaking my mind
Do this, don’t do that, can’t you read the sign  🙂

January 12 of 12 – Sydney

This month found me and Bradley in Sydney.

Our day started waking up in North Sydney with a view of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. It was then a walk down to McMahons Point to grab the ferry. We did the loop around Darling Harbour, Milsons Point and into Circular Quay.

First stop was a ride on the Shark Attack Jet Boat. We were told that we would get wet with or without the coats so we chose the coats any way. The ride went for about 35 minutes getting up to Watsons Bay across to Chowder Bay and back doing 360’s and bow wake jumps. Did we get wet – YES!! Bradley had a ball.

Bradley wanted to go back for a shower but that was not going to happen.

We then checked out the Opera House, Botanic Gardens then back to Circular Quay to watch the street performers. The main one was a juggler with flames, chainsaw and knifes on top of a bike on a pole.

It was then a walk around to the Harbour Bridge to look at it up close – it is an impressive bridge. We then continued to the Rocks for lunch and to check out some of the history.

It was then back to the Quay to catch the train back to North Sydney.

Still had some time for some caching with:

GCJFY5 – Writers of Renoun

GCXDDN – Campbells Cove

GC21VP4 – Sydney Harbour Bridge EarthCache

December 12 of 12

Today was an interesting and varied day for a 12 of 12.

The day started out in the early hours of the morning with a 3rd alarm fire at the old Julia Farr building at Fullarton where I attended as a Safety Officer.

After a pretty broken sleep with the pager continuing to go off every hour or so, it was time to head up to the Blackwood Scout Hall to assist the Scout Leaders to pack the pallecon with the equipment for Troop 0404 attending the AJ2010. After packing the 2 trailers with the last minute bits and pieces we headed down to Gillman to start packing.

When we saw the size of the pallecon and the amount of gear to fit in, we were not sure of whether it was possible. Many of the other troops packing also were of the same mind and kept coming over to see how we were going.

After 2 hours all but 2 water containers (they will go in the bus) made it in and the pallecon started its journey to Cataract Park.

It was then time to do some geocaching in the Gillman area.

Caches found today are:

GC1KKCT – Sister of the South

GC1NXH0 – The Fifth Element

GC1BBEX – BIC

GC1FYQV – Come Chase The Bunny

October 12 of 12

Today was going to be a productive day at the Rally Office but flexibility is the key. FedEx had tried to deliver a Microsoft package last week while I was in the Flinders but left “Sorry” cards instead. Going on the previous attempts, it should be some time in the morning.

That’s OK, gives me a chance to log the geocache finds for the last 10 days.

I had Budge the Budgie and Molly the Dog to keep me company, although Molly would rather have Budge for breakfast.

Had the September Geocoin Club Coin arrive in the mail today with it’s accompanying pathtag. It is always interesting to see what design they come up with.

Spent a little time finishing the cleaning of the 4WD after 10 days of Flinders Ranges mud and dust and it is now ready for its next adventure at the Coorong in three weeks.

Time for some morning coffee and a phone call to FedEx to see where it is. Still going to be delivered today ….

Have adopted some caches from another cacher that doesnt want to maintain them unfortuneately they have been archived so I had to make up new listings for them – 6 new caches waiting for review 😀

Still no package, so it was time to get down and do some Classic Adelaide work. Have some printing deadlines coming up for various publications. It is all going well.

It has been a day of sunshine and rainfall all day but during the afternoon, I received a couple of pages for some severe weather. Should be an interesting night tonight.

After tea, Rachael put on her formal dress for me to see and a fitting image to complete this months 12 of 12. 🙂

September 12 of 12 – Geocaching Theme

This months 12 of 12 is part of a worldwide Geocaching 12 of 12. Our 12 of 12 starts at Midnight on our way back from a week in the snow at Falls Creek. We left Dimboola just after midnight and headed west to SA. Our first Stop was on the border for GC1RJY4 – what state am in. It was a quick find with a few trucks heading past.
