Mildura Caching – Most of the Gang heads West across the Border

After Cabin Party #2, it was a little harder to rise but we had another big day planned with a Mexican Webcam cache in the Main Street, followed from some walking on Lock Island then across the border into California (NSW) then back into Mexico (Victoria) for some more caches along the River Murray.

Around lunch time 1/2 of the SA cachers headed west towards SA leaving a smaller group to remain and grab some caches to the north-east of town.

I accompanied the girls half way to the Border to ensure they got out safely then I headed back to the caravan park to log and rest. I was the last of the South Australians left in Mexico.

Caching Mildura – Murray Sunset and Cabin Party

After a late night / early morning finish to Cabin Party #1, it was all hands on deck for Day one of the Mildura Event. Today was caching through the Murray Sunset National Park as a convoy then after Rocket Lake the Victorians headed west and the South Australians headed east.

We went through some spectacular country, 4WDing and even hiding a new cache – GC1Y2EG – Space Invader. We had some heavy rain in places which was all headed to the Alps to drop some snow. 🙂

A good day was had by all then it was off to the pub for the Event Dinner. Back to the caravan park for Cabin Party #2. More fun but I hit the wall early.

Travelling to Mildura for Geocaching

With Jenny and Bradley doing a first aid course over the weekend and Rachael with a couple of birthday parties, what was the point of me being home. Why not attend a Geocaching Event.

Now where in Australia is there an event on this weekend – Mildura has Let’s Raid the Food Bowl – that will do. It just happened that there were a number of South Australians also attending.

Since we were going over the border to “Mexico”, we needed to assimilate with the locals. All the South Aussies decided that sombreros and ponchos were in order.

I left on the Friday morning, planning to do some caching through the Mallee, Riverland and then along the Murray to Mildura.

Conditions were good in the morning but in the afternoon, the black clouds came in and the rain started coming down heavy. I was on the Old Mail Road between Renmark and Mildura at this time and it was getting slippery, dark and muddy. I got through OK but was to find that another cacher was bogged along the way but was rescued late at night by some other cachers following a few hours behind me.

After a communal dinner in the rain it was off to Cabin 3 for Cabin Party #1 – not a shed party but certainly as much fun.

My count for the travel to Mildura was 26 caches as below:

Mid North Geocaching

After a “big” day at Mallala Motorsport Park (well it wasn’t that big a day) for the HQ Enduro, I rang home to let them know that I was on my way but there was no one there. Jenny was at Woodhouse for a Jamboree thing, Bradley was at a sleepover and Rachael was at a birthday party. So what better excuse than to go caching in the Mid North.

From Mallala, headed to Hamley Bridge, Tarlee, Freeling and then home picking up 14 caches and a few pathtags on the way.

Caches grabbed were:

GC18YH5 – Moquet Lee

Firesafe makes Podcacher Podcast

After leaving San Diego we headed north to Carlsbad to meet up with Sonny, Sandy and Sean of Podcacher fame. It was great to finally catch up with them after emails and phone calls over the last couple of years.

We chatted for a while then Sonny interviewed me for an upcoming Podcacher podcast while Jenny and the kids amused Sean. Sonny then got Jenny and the kids involved in the podcast as well. You will need to go to www.podcacher.com on Monday 27th July to listen for the podcast.

UPDATE: The link to the Podcast is Show 227.0: Meeting up with Listeners

In a freak accident, I managed to get splodged by Ketchup as someone stepped on a sachet that was on the sidewalk and it exploded and ended up all up my back. I guess it will wash out.

We left Carlsbad with plenty of time on our hands or so we thought as it took us 3 hours to travel the 150 km. We made it to LAX by 7:15 pm in time to check in but we didnt get bumped up this time to Business so cattle class here we come. 🙁
